Síndrome da Apneia Obstrutiva do Sono: Diagnóstico e Tratamento

Resumo

A Síndrome da Apneia Obstrutiva do Sono (SAOS) é definida por episódios recorrentes de uma obstrução total ou parcial do ar nas vias aéreas durante o sono, consideradas apneia e hipopneia respectivamente.Por estar aumentando cada vez mais o número de indivíduos com algum distúrbio respiratório, a SAOS pode ser considerada um problema de saúde pública, que merece uma atenção maior em relação aos diagnósticos e tratamentos que estão sendo realizados. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar, através de uma revisão de literatura, o que deve ser avaliado durante o diagnóstico, bem como a etiologia, tratamentos e consequências de distúrbios respiratórios não tratados adequadamente. A etiologia é multifatorial, podendo estar associada a fatores exógenos ou fatores patológicos e anatômicos.Além dos próprios sintomas interferirem na qualidade de vida do indivíduo, dependendo da intensidade, a SAOS pode desencadear complicações mais graves. Trata-se de uma síndrome complexa, a qual pode apresentar vários graus e consequências irreversíveis ao organismo. A escolha do tratamento deve ser baseada nas condições clínicas, na severidade da apneia, no grau de urgência do tratamento e nas preferências do paciente, mas os tratamentos disponíveis não serão totalmente eficazes se não houver modificações no estilo de vida do mesmo. As desordens respiratórias podem variar entre uma simples obstrução nasal intermitente e obstruções mais graves, ressaltando a importância de um diagnóstico completo, que deve ser multidisciplinar, através de uma relação de equipe entre o médico e o cirurgião-dentista.
