Introduction: Hospitalized pediatric patients require special attention since the oral cavity can be a source of dissemination of pathogenic microorganisms. Objective: To characterize the clinical profile and evaluate the oral health of children admitted to the Hospital e Pronto Socorro da Criança Zona Sul. Material and Method: One hundred and ten patients and their guardians were selected, and they completed a questionnaire on socioeconomic indicators and medical history. The children were examined by an examiner calibrated to diagnose dental caries and the presence of lesions or alterations in soft tissues. Descriptive analysis, Pearson's chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test (p<0.05) were used in data analysis. Results: Most participants were female (51.8%), aged between 3 and 5 years (39.1%), whose mothers (75.4%) were the primary caregivers. Monthly family income ranged from one to two minimum wages (60%). Regarding oral hygiene habits, 72.7% of the children brushed their teeth once a day and 98.2% did not receive guidance during hospitalization. Some (42.7%) of the participants had tongue coating. The majority (60%) had experience with dental caries, with means of 2.87 (± 1.10) for ceod and 2.75 (± 1.12) for CPOD. There was a statistically significant association between the experience of caries and the independent variables: monthly family income (p=0.011), age (p=0.002), maternal education (p=0.026), reason for hospitalization (p=0.002) and visit to the Dentist in recent years (p=0.048). Conclusion: Most patients had dental caries experience, suggesting the inclusion of the Dentist in the hospital teams to promote oral health.
