Abstract

Mandibular fractures are highly prevalent among facial traumas and account for a significant portion of cases treated in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, especially in Brazil. Among the most affected regions, the mandibular angle stands out due to its susceptibility to complications, such as occlusal misalignment and difficulties in bone healing. Adequate treatment is essential to minimize functional and aesthetic sequelae. This study aims to report the case of a patient treated at Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Araçatuba, who suffered a bicycle fall the previous week. During the clinical evaluation, findings included hardened edema in the right submandibular region, trismus, spontaneous pain, mandibular crepitus, and occlusal alteration. Computed tomography revealed a fracture in the right mandibular angle. The patient underwent surgery for fracture reduction and fixation under general anesthesia using the Champy technique, with plates and screws from the 2.0 system. Additionally, a Penrose drain was installed to facilitate postoperative drainage, which was removed 24 hours later at hospital discharge. This case highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate therapeutic interventions, such as the Champy technique, which has proven effective in stabilizing mandibular fractures. The success of the surgical management and the patient’s recovery underscores the relevance of individualized and meticulous approaches to minimize complications and ensure favorable functional and aesthetic outcomes.
