The desire to belong to a specific group is a characteristic of society, carrying symbolism related to differentiation, social status, affiliation, and individual gratification. Belonging, understood as a subjective sense of deep connection with social groups, physical places, and both individual and collective experiences, serves as a predictor of numerous mental, physical, social, economic, and behavioral outcomes. The positive social relationships, the improved academic performance, professional success, and better physical and mental health have been reported as beneficial effects stemming from this sense of belonging. In this context—viewing the university environment as a space for listening, dialogue, and belonging, with direct impacts on learning, student retention, and affective, cognitive, and social development—this study aims to reflect on the representations and meanings of belonging within the academic sphere, guided by the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Health and Well-being; SDG 4: Quality Education).
